Acupuncture Q&A

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment that involves inserting small, thin needles into strategic points in your body. In TCM, practitioners believe acupuncture balances your body’s qi (energy flow). Western practitioners use acupuncture to stimulate pressure points, activating specific muscles, nerves, and tissues.

With licensed acupuncture physicians and specialists, Mind & Soul & Acupuncture uses this ancient healing practice to relieve pain, improve physical function, and enhance your overall well-being.

What conditions can acupuncture address?

By stimulating your body’s natural healing mechanisms, acupuncture offers a holistic approach to wellness.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is safe when an experienced acupuncturist performs the treatment. The FDA considers the needles that acupuncturists use as regulated medical devices. This ensures that the needles are sterile, non-toxic, and only available for single-use application by qualified providers.

I have an acupuncture appointment. What can I expect?

Once you’re comfortable, your acupuncturist inserts thin needles into specific points on your body. You may experience minimal discomfort during needle insertion and sensations like warmth, tingling, or a slight heaviness once they’re in place.

The session typically lasts about 20-30 minutes, after which your acupuncturist gently removes the needles. You can resume your normal activities immediately. Your acupuncturist may recommend follow-up visits depending on your condition and unique needs.

How many acupuncture treatments will I need?

Most people benefit from multiple acupuncture sessions. Your personalized plan may include 6-8 initial treatments with regular follow-up appointments.
